TIME FLIES STILL 2016_current

With Plato’s allegory of the cave in mind, my current work in progress explores the dynamics of the landscape through manipulations of perspective unique to video and photography. The certainty of form is called into question as, shapes rise from the darkness, light reflects abstraction, space becomes time and language becomes image. Rather than presenting a factual reality, these landscapes are an illusion, resolved through the viewers gaze. Dreamlike stills become tranquil poetic environments balancing on the edge of recognition and distortion. They are invitations to a space that feels both safe and unnerving inspiring a sense of sublimity. Much like Plato’s shadows, forms emerge through association, by something that feels familiar; a shadow theater of light, texture and mistaken identities.
